Adam on his journey of resilience and adaptation while living with cystic fibrosis (CF).
Reflecting on moments of doubt and physical struggles, Adam talks about how he almost gave up his passion for live music due to the demands of CF.
Adam, a passionate musician with a deep love for drums, is a young man in his 20s living in NSW.
Adam is crafting a future he never imagined, up until recently believing his life would be limited to his 30s or 40s.
“Growing up with CF I just didn’t plan to live past 40. The perspective is to live fast, die young. That’s why I play drums, that’s why I have just like to live creatively. It’s what allows me to be happy within CF.“
However, with the introduction of Trikafta, Adam’s life path has taken a new direction, and with that comes a new set of challenges as he navigates living past an age he never thought he would make it to.
“CF is naturally an isolating condition, especially when you’re young thinking about what it’s like to live with CF as an older person.
It’s really hard to gauge what that looks like without meeting someone with CF who is much older. I didn’t really have anyone around me to talk about it with who would actually understand.
I think most people just understood by the facts of what CF is rather than what it looks like day to day.”

“Cystic Fibrosis Community Care and Lex Projects, led by Raphael Recht, have joined forces to produce a compelling six-part short film series centered on the lives of young individuals managing cystic fibrosis. Through intimate interviews, captivating cinematography, and a deep dive into personal narratives, this series sheds light on the triumphs and challenges faced by those living with CF.
At the helm of this project is Raphael Recht, a 42-year-old multidisciplinary artist who himself grapples with cystic fibrosis. Drawing from his own experiences and artistic expertise, Raphael has dedicated years to exploring his identity and navigating life with CF. His previous endeavour, ‘Lifexpectancy,’ a conceptual hip-hop project, delved into his journey overcoming the hurdles of CF and learning disabilities to lead a fulfilling life.
Now, Raphael embarks on a new mission: to amplify the voices of others within the CF community. Through his lens as a filmmaker and photographer spanning nearly two decades, Raphael crafts poignant and visually stunning narratives that offer profound insights into the lived experiences of those with cystic fibrosis.
By partnering with us, Raphael aims to foster greater understanding and empathy for individuals battling the same condition he confronts daily. Through the power of storytelling, this series aims to educate, inspire, and uplift, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and supportive community for those affected by cystic fibrosis.”
